According to Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary, Sinhalese word rada means “king, sovereign, from rája.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root aracaṉ through the transformation of aracaṉ > rājan > rada. The following words, related to Sinhalese rada, also originate from Tamil aracaṉ.
