ar > aruṇá in other East Indo-European Languages (2)

   Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word aruṇá means “red colour.” He also lists the cognates of aruṇá in other East Indo-European languages:

Pali aruṇa-; Aśokan alune; Prakrit aruṇa-; Kashmiri arun; Bihārī arun; Hindī arun; Sinhalese aruṇa, aruṇu.

All these cognates and the following word related to aruṇá originate from the Tamil root ar

*aruṇatara, reddish.
