Sinhalese chhidra (18)
Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word chhidra means “hole, perforation, vacuity, small opening, fault, flaw, and defect.” It is an offshoot of the Tamil root kappal through the transformation of kappal > chid > chidrá > chhidra. The following words, related to Sinhalese chhidra, also originate from Tamil kappu.
