Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word chidrá means “torn asunder, having holes, pierced, leaky, slit, cleft, and hole.” He also provides the cognates of chidrá in other Indo-European languages and dialects:
