Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word loho means “iron, metal, either in a crude or wrought state.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar through the transformation of ar > ru > rudh/ruh > loho. The following words, related to Sinhalese loho, also originate from Tamil ar.
