Sanskrit lohá (53)
According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Sanskrit word lohá is probably derived from a root ruh for a lost root rudh, meaning “to be red.” It refers to “red, reddish, copper-coloured; made of copper; made of iron; and red metal, copper.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar, through the transformation of ar > ru > rudh/ruh > lohá.
