Pali rudhira (3)
According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, rudhira means “blood.” It is etymologically related to terms in other Indo-European languages, such as Sanskrit rudhira, Latin ruber, Greek ἐρυχρός (erychrós), Old-Icelandic rodra, Gothic raups, German rot, and English red. It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar through the transformation of ar > ru > rudh/ruh > rudhira. The following words, related to Pali rudhira, also originate from the Tamil root ar.
ruhira, blood.” ruhirakkhita, besmeared with blood.”
