Pali ratta (4)
According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, ratta means “dyed, coloured; red.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar through the transformation of ar > ra > rañj > rakta > ratta. The following words, related to Pali ratta, also originate from Tamil ar.
rattakkha, with red eyes. rattakkhin, red-eye. alattaka, lac, a red animal dye.
