     According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word loha means “metal, especially copper, brass or bronze. It is etymologically related to terms in other Indo-European languages, such as Sanskrit loha and Indo-Germanic *(e)reudh. It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar through the transformation of ar > ru > rudh/ruh > loha. The following words, related to Pali loha, also originate from Tamil ar.
