Pali lākhā (35)

     Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary says lākhā denotes “lac and lac-dye.” It originates from Tamil ar, meaning “red.” This Tamil ar changes into lākhā in Pali through the transformation of ar > ra > la > laksh > lākhā. The following words, related to Pali lākhā, also originate from Tamil ar.
