Pali aruṇa (6)
According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, aruṇa refers to “the sun.” It is linguistically related to Sanskrit aruṇá. It traces its origin to the Tamil root ar through the transformation of ar > aruṇá > aruṇa. The following words, related to Pali aruṇa, also originate from Tamil ar.
aruṇa-ugga, sunrise. aruṇa-uggamana, sunrise. aruṇa-utu, the occasion of the sun. aruṇa-vaṇṇa, of the colour of the sun, reddish, yellowish, golden. aruṇa-sadisa, like the sun (in colour).
