Sinhalese khara (13)
Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word khara means “hot, sharp, pungent, piercing, sharp-edged, sharp-pointed, cruel, harsh, heron, crow, kind of grass, and Andropogon serratus.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root kaṭu (sharpness) through the transformation of kaṭu (sharpness) > kar > khára > khara. The following words, related to Sinhalese khara, also originate from the Tamil root kaṭu (sharpness).
