Sinhalese aka (9)

    Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word aka means “sign, mark; little, small quantity; a weight of 16 ṃáshas; pain, affliction; and a tree, Asclepias gigantea.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root aṅku through the transformation of aṅku > aṅká > aka. The following words, related to Sinhalese aka, also originate from Tamil aṅku.
