   According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, áṅga means “a limb of the body; a limb, member; the body; a subordinate division or department, and especially of a science, as the six Vedāṅgas.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root aṅku through the transformation of aṅku > áṅga.
