Turner’s A Comparative DictIonary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word śaṅkhá refers to “conch shell.” He also provides the cognates of śaṅkhá in other East Indo-European languages:
Pali saṅkha-; Prakrit saṁkha-; Bengali sā̃kh, sā̃khā, sā̃kā, sẽkhā; Old Awadhī sāṁkha; Sindhī saṅkhu; Oṛiyā saṅkhā; Hindī saṅkh; Sinhalese sak-a, hak-a; Kumaunī sā̃kh, sā̃k.
All these cognates and the following words related to śaṅkhá originate from the Tamil root aṅku.
