Pali pharasu (1)
In Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word pharasu refers to a “hatchet and an axe.” They also present the cognates of pharasu in other Indo-European languages. It includes Vedic paraśu, Greek πέλεκυς (pélekys), and Prakrit pharasu, parasu. It is an offshoot of the Tamil root akku through the transformation of akku > aṡ > paraṡú > pharasu.
