Sinhalese aṡma (1)

According to Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary, the Sinhalese word aṡmabheda (aṡma, stone and bheda, that breaks) refers to a “plant (Aerva lanata or Illecebrum lanatum), commonly called polkudupalá.” It is said to be good for nephritic complaints. The first member, aṡma in the compound word aṡmabheda, originates from Tamil akku through the transformation of akku > aṡ > áṡman > aṡma.
