According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Sanskrit word īrmá means “the arm and the fore-quarter of an animal.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ār through the transformation of ār > īrmá. The following word, related to Sanskrit īrmá, also originates from Tamil ār.
