Sanskrit ṛiddhi (4)

According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Sanskrit word ṛiddhi means “increase, growth, prosperity, success, good fortune, wealth, abundance; accomplishment, perfection, supernatural power; magic; a kind of medicinal plant, name of Pārvatī; and name of Lakshmī.” The word ṛiddhi is derived from the root ṛidh, meaning “to grow, increase, prosper, succeed; to cause to increase or prosper, promote, make prosperous, accomplish; and to be promoted, increase, prosper, succeed.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ār through the transformation of ār > ṛidh > ṛiddhi. The following words, related to Sanskrit ṛiddhi, also originate from Tamil ār.

ṛiddhi-kāma, desiring prosperity or wealth. ṛiddhi-pāda, one of the four constituent parts of supernatural power. ṛiddhi-mat, being in a prosperous state, prosperous, wealthy; bringing or bestowing prosperity or wealth.
