ār > ri > rītí in other East Indo-European Languages (1)
Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word rītí means “stream.” The word rītí is derived from the root ri, meaning “method and manner.” He also gives cognates of rītí in other East Indo-European languages:
Prakrit rīi-; Oṛiyā ria; Gujarātī rī.
All these cognates of rītí originate from the Tamil root ār.
