ār > ṛi > ara in other East Indo-European Languages (4)
Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word ará means “spoke of a wheel.” He also lists cognates of ara in other East Indo-European languages:
Pali ara-; Prakrit ara-, ara-ga-, ara-ya-; Sindhī aro; Panjābī ar; Oṛiyā ara; Sinhalesae ara.
All these cognates and the following words related to ara originate from Tamil ār.
ara(ghaṭṭa), wheel for raising water. *nēmiyāra, felly-spoke. āra-, spoke of a wheel.
