    According to Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary, Sinhalese word ríti means “usage, custom, practice.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root aruvi through the transformation of aruvi > ri > ríti. The following words, related to Sinhalese ríti, also originate from Tamil aruvi.
