According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word vilīyati means “to melt, to be dissolved, to perish.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root aruvi through the transformation of aruvi > ri > lī > vilīyati. The following words, related to Pali vilīyati, also originate from Tamil aruvi.
