Pali raya (2)

     According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word raya means “speed, current.”  It is etymologically related to Sanskrit retaḥ, Latin rivus, and Gallic Rēnos. It traces its origin to the Tamil root aruvi through the transformation of aruvi > ri > raya. The following word, related to Pali raya, also originate from Tamil aruvi.
