Pali ambakā (2)
According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word ambakā refers to “mother and good wife.” It is linguistically related to Sanskrit ambikā (diminutive of ambī). It traces its origin to the Tamil root ammā through the transformation of ammā > ambā́ > ambakā. The following word, related to Pali ambakā, also originate from Tamil ammā.
amma, endearing term, used by children in addressing their mother (mammy, mother dear); in general when addressing a woman familiarly (good woman, my (good) lady, dear, thus to a woman); to a daughter.
