Pali uru (1)

According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word uru means “wide, large, wide, and large.” They also state that it shares etymological relationship with terms in other Indo-European languages. They include Avesta ravah (space); Greek εὐρύς (evrýs) (wide); Latin rūs (free or wide space, field); Indo-Germanic *ru, *uer (wide); Gothic rūms (space); Anglo-Saxon rūm; English room; and German raum. The Pali word uru traces its origin to the Tamil root uṟu through the transformation of uṟu > urú > uru.
