uraṟu > rā́yati in other Indo-European Languages (3)

     Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word rā́yati means “barks at.” He also provides the cognates of rā́yati in other Indo-European languages and dialects:

Prakrit rāi; Dameli ray-; Pashai and Lauṛowānī (dialect of Pashai) ẓay-; Kalasha and Rumbūr (dialect of Kalasha) rāy-; Khowār rayik; Oṛiyā rāibā.

These cognates and the following words related to rā́yati originate from the Tamil root uraṟu.

rāyaṇa, “making a noise.” *rāyaṇika, “barking.”
