ul > ulai > ulkā́ in other Indo-European Languages (1)
Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word ulkā́ means “meteor, fire falling from heaven, and fire-brand.” He also lists cognates of ulkā́ in other Indo-European languages:
Pali ukkā-; Prakrit ukkā-; Bengali ūk, ukā; Oṛiyā uka, ukiā; Maithilī ūk; Hindī ūk.
All the above cognates of ulkā́ originate from the Tamil root ulai.
