Sanskrit ágra-hāra (1)
According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Sanskrit word ágra-hāra means “royal donation of land to Brāhmans, land or village thus given.” In ágra-hāra, the form hāra is derived from the Sanskrit root hṛi, meaning “to offer and present.” However, it originates from the Tamil root akaram. This akaram changes into hāra in the Sanskrit word ágra-hāra through the transformation of akaram > (ágra)-hāra.
