In his A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages, Turner says Sanskrit word ṓjas means “strength, vigour, and vitality.” It is derived from the √*vaj, meaning “be strong.” He also provides the cognates of ṓjas in other East Indo-European languages:
Pali ōjā-; Prakrit ōya-, ōyā-; Middle Indo-Aryan forms occurring in Corpus Inscriptionum Indicarum oja-; Language of ‘Kharoṣṭhī Inscriptions discovered by Sir Aurel Stein in Chinese Turkestan’ oya-; Sinhalese oda.
All these cognates and the following words related to ṓjas originate from Tamil ākutal.
ugrá, (√vaj) strong, terrible, fierce; anger. ōjmán, (√*vaj) vigour, speed, power. *nirōjas, without strength.
