Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word wasat means “spring or sultry season.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root wasat through the transformation of uṇṇam > vas > vasantá > wasat. The following words, related to Sinhalese wasat, also originate from Tamil uṇṇam.
