Sinhalese ushṇa (6)
Clough’s Sinhala English Dictionary says Sinhalese word ushṇa means “heat, warmth, and hot season.” It is an offshoot of the Tamil root uṇṇam through the transformation of uṇṇam > ush > ushṇá > ushṇa. The following words, related to Sinhalese ushṇa, also originate from Tamil uṇṇam.
úshṇa, “heat, ray; corrupt form of ushṇa.” usra, “ray of light.” unu, “hot, warm; earring; decrease.” unuhuma and unuhum, “warmth, heat.”
