Pali vasanta (2)

According to Davids and Stede’s Pali-English Dictionary, Pali word vasanta means “spring.” It is linguistically related to Indo-Germanic *ēr, Avestan varehar, Latin vēr, Old-Icelandic vār, Lithuanian vasarā, and Greek ἒαρ (éar). It traces its origin to the Tamil root uṇṇam through the transformation of uṇṇam > vas > vasantá > vasanta. The following word, related to Pali vasanta, also originates from Tamil uṇṇam.

paccūsa-vasanta, “the time towards dawn, morning, dawn.”
