arici > vrīhí in other East Indo-European Languages (1)

    Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word vrīhí means “rice.” He also gives the cognates of vrīhí in the other East Indo-European languages and dialects:

Pali and Prakrit vīhi-; Kati wriċ, ŕīċ; Prasun wuzī́; Shina and Gilgitī (dialect of Shina) brĭ̃ŭ; Kohistānī bī˜ŭ; Gurēsī (dialect of Shina) brim; Sinhalese viya.

All these cognates have originated from the Tamil root arici.
