    According to Monier-Williams’ A Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Sanskrit word ámbhas denotes “water and the celestial waters.” It traces its origin to the Tamil root ampu through the transformation of ampu > ámbhas. The following words, related to Sanskrit ámbhas, also originate from Tamil ampu.
