ampu > ámbhas in other East Indo-European Languages (1)

    Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the East Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word ámbhas means “water.” He also lists the cognates of ámbhas in other East Indo-European languages:

Pali ambha-; Prakrit ambha-; Sinhalese and Hindī ambhaurī.

All these cognates of ámbhas originate from the Tamil root ampu.
