ampu > ámbu in other East Indo-European Languages (1)
Turner’s A Comparative Dictionary of the Indo-Aryan Languages says Sanskrit word ámbu means “water.” He also lists the cognates of ámbu in other East Indo-European languages:
Pali ambu-; Prakrit aṁbu-; Sinhalese am̆ba.
All these cognates of ámbu originate from the Tamil root ampu.
